Preparing the merit list: DU Admissions

Hello everyone, as the Delhi University colleges have started admissions again for the vacant seats in some of the colleges. So from the news it is being said that the odd colleges received over 40,000 applications  for the admissions for vacant seats. And all other nine colleges got about 20,000 applications.

With such demand of admissions, colleges are very happy. The Hindu college received about 5000 applications for just 6 vacant seats in B.Com (H). “We are working on the data. The numbers are huge. And we have to work out a merit list only based on the number of seats available,” said Anju Srivastava, principal, Hindu College.

After Hindu College, another college to get second highest admissions application is North campus  Kirori Mal College. “LSR received 1,811 applications for the six general category seats in psychology. We never imagined such big numbers. That makes our work even tougher to prepare a merit list. We will go step wise, as directed by the university. In case of the best-of-four scores being the same, we will have to consider the overall class XII aggregate,” said Kanika Ahuja, media coordinator, LSR.

The one main problem that is arising in admissions is that many applicants have already secured in DU college. As soon as the unfilled seat status announced these students applied to other colleges and courses without withdrawing from the course they are enrolled in. “The problem is that if these students are offered seats, their current seats will fall vacant and it will only prolong the admission process,” said a principal of a south Delhi college.

At first initially the students were not allowed to apply without cancelling the seats in other colleges. Some of the students asked for the assurance they wanted that they will get admission in case they cancel. That’s what we can’t promise said the principal.
